Help extend your tyre life

As a driver, ensuring that your tyres are well-maintained is not only important for your safety on the road, but also for the longevity of your tyres and can help extend tyre life. Regular tyre maintenance can help prevent blowouts, punctures, and other tyre-related issues that can lead to accidents or costly repairs. In this blog post, we'll go over some tips on how to properly maintain your tyres.

Check your tyre pressure regularly

One of the most important aspects of tyre maintenance is checking your tyre pressure regularly. Tyres that are underinflated or overinflated can lead to uneven wear and tear, which can cause damage to the tyres and even affect your car's handling. Use a tyre pressure gauge to check your tyre pressure at least once a month and adjust it as needed. The recommended tyre pressure can usually be found in your car's owner's manual, on the driver's side door jamb, or on the tyre itself.

Rotate your tyres

Another important aspect of tyre maintenance is rotating your tyres. Tyres wear differently depending on their position on the car, so rotating them can help ensure even wear and prolong the life of your tyres. A general rule of thumb is to rotate your tyres every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, or as recommended by your car's manufacturer.

Check your tyre tread depth

Your tyre's tread depth is crucial for maintaining traction on the road, especially in wet or slippery conditions. Use a tread depth gauge to check your tyre tread depth regularly, and replace your tyres if the tread depth falls below 2/32 of an inch. You can also use the penny test to check your tyre tread depth – simply take a 20p coin and insert it into one of the tread’s grooves. Crouch down so your eyes are level with the surface of the part of the tread that you are measuring. If you can see any part of the outer band of the coin, this means that your tyres are worn to the point that they are no longer safe and need to be changed. Check different parts around tyre and if any point fails the test, get new tyre.

Keep your tyres clean

Keeping your tyres clean can not only improve their appearance, but also help prevent damage. Dirt and debris can accumulate on your tyres, which can lead to corrosion or punctures. Use a mild soap and water to clean your tyres and avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive brushes that can damage the rubber.

By following these simple tyre maintenance tips, you can ensure that your tyres are in good condition and keep you safe on the road. Remember, proper tyre maintenance not only saves you money in the long run, but also ensures a smoother and safer driving experience.
